Centre for Criminology and Victimology
The National Law University Delhi has set up a centre – Centre for Criminology and Victimology (“CCV”) for advanced research training, policy analysis and consultancy in the broader fields of criminology and victimology. CCV aims to contribute towards the fundamental and applied research and action in the field of Criminology. and Victimology. Towards this end, the Centre promotes research, training, policy analysis and consultancy in the aforesaid fields. The Centre brings along pertinent interdisciplinary research and learning strategies to identify the lacunae in our criminal justice and victim justice systems while systematically addressing the same. The Centre also provides ready consultancy to various law enforcement and governmental agencies by offering research-based solutions to legal conundrums. Additionally, the Centre conducts training, research workshops and conferences especially in the areas of Criminal Justice, Victim Justice, and Victimology.
Objectives
The centre has the following key objectives:
- Of promoting research and action in the selected areas of criminology and victimology, including victim justice.
- To undertake specific research projects in the said areas.
- To propose training programmes for various functionaries of the criminal justice system, including the stakeholders in the field of juvenile justice.
- To analyse and critically examine the laws, policies, and programmes from the standpoint of victim protection, participation, justice and rehabilitation.
- To strive for providing a Victimological perspective in the legal education at graduate and undergraduate level.
- To organize initiatives in the form of victim advocacy, legal clinic and outreach programme for extending victims support services.
- To undertake publications and coordinate with various National and International agencies working in the broader areas of victimology and criminology.

Initiatives for the Academic Year 2024-25
- Training Programme for Advocates on New Criminal Laws with IBJ, India and Delhi Bar Association [Jan.-Mar. 2025]
This initiative is aimed at improving the knowledge of members of bar association and legal aid services regarding the new criminal laws. - Decriminalisation of Industrial Laws [2025]
Commissioned by the Ministry of Commerce, State of Chattisgarh, the project explores the amendment of laws to improve ease of business. - Radicalisation [2024-25]
This project explores policing in the context of emerging security risks. It is commissioned by the Bureau of Police Research and Development - Executive Development Programme – Mid-Career Training Programme for Police Officers of Madhya Pradesh [Dec 2024]

In collaboration with Victim Support Asia, this two-day event convened international experts to discuss advancements in victim support systems across Asia. - Colloquium on New Criminal Laws [July 2024]
The colloquium was organised in collaboration with University Grants Commission and featured discussions on the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

Ms. Avaantika Chawla led an engaging lecture on the POCSO Act of 2012, covering its historical evolution, legal intricacies, and implementation challenges. The event featured interactive discussions, with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty alike. - Guest Lecture on Restorative Justice in University Settings (May 2024)
Dr. Muhammad Asadullah delivered an insightful lecture on incorporating restorative justice into legal education. The event emphasized the importance of inclusive and decolonial approaches to teaching. - Colloquium on New Criminal Laws (July 2024)

Publications
Indian Journal of Criminology
Indian Journal of Criminology is a joint publication of the Indian Society of Criminology (“ISC”) and the Centre for Criminology and Victimology, National Law University Delhi. The journal is peer-reviewed Open access bi-annually (January and July) Journal. Indian Journal of Criminology began in 1973. It has been considered a reputable and prestigious journal in the field of criminology and criminal justice in the Indian context. The Indian Journal of Criminology meets all the requirements for academic excellence in criminology and is included in the UGC-CARE List Group I.
Indian Journal of Victimology and Victim Justice
Journal of Victimology and Victim Justice, a peer-reviewed journal focuses on both critical leadership and practical development representing victimological perspectives from a brod range of disciplines and contributes to a greater understanding of victims, victimization, victim- offender relations, institutional functioning and allied issues.
Proposed Projects
- Organising a workshop for drafting the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) minimum standards of rights, participation and services to the victims of crime.
- Setting up of a victim advocacy clinic in the National Law University Delhi.
