The Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution, NLU Delhi, in collaboration with PSL Advocates & Solicitors, conducted the first edition of the Essay Writing Competition, The Arbitration Odyssey: Exploring the Legal Frontiers. As part of the Centre’s mission, we are committed to fostering innovative thinking and promoting discourse in the field of arbitration.
The Competition invited participants to delve into various facets of arbitration, exploring its theoretical underpinnings, practical applications, and contemporary challenges. From seasoned legal scholars to aspiring lawyers, this competition offered a platform to showcase participants’ analytical prowess, research skills, and passion for arbitration.
We would like to thank our sponsors at PSL for their crucial support in making this competition an overwhelming success by contributing to the sphere of academia in such a robust and dynamic field of law. Their patience and strong response as well as guidance has helped us throughout this journey. PSL Advocates & Solicitors’ contribution demonstrates its unwavering support for academic activities and its commitment towards the development of the legal profession.
With an admirable contribution of nearly 150+ essay submissions, an intricate process of three layers of evaluations were conducted with a complete layer of anonymity being maintained throughout. The winners of the competition were eventually decided by PSL Advocates & Solicitors.
The winners in the Competition were:
Winners – Arjun Mahesh Guru & Kaushiki Chauhan with the essay ‘The Basics, Status Quo and Traversing the Rough Seas – Influence of Third-Party Funding on Adverse Costs and Beyond’, from NLU Delhi;
1st Runner Up – Gurasis Singh Grover & Aryan Gupta with the essay titled ‘Section 3G: My Way or Highway – Evaluating Sole Arbitrator Appointments in the National Highways Act, 1956’, from IIM, Rohtak;
2nd Runner Up – Lahar Jain with the essay titled – ‘International Arbitration and Arbitrability of Tax Disputes’, from NLSIU Bengaluru.
The winners were awarded a prize money of INR 15,000/- and an internship opportunity at PSL Advocates & Solicitors. The 1st Runner Up and the 2nd Runner Up were awarded a sum of INR 10,000/- and INR 5,000/- respectively.
NLU Delhi congratulates all the winners and wishes them all the very best in their endeavours, and we hope they use this opportunity to only better their knowledge and contribute to the sphere of arbitration in any way they can.
