Panel Discussion on ‘Ideas and Methods of Legal Research’

A Panel Discussion was organised on the book ‘Ideas and Methods of Legal Research’, on 18th October 2019, at NLU Delhi by Centre for Law, Justice and Development. Several dignitaries were part of the discussion on various chapters of the book, authored by Prof. (Dr.) P. Ishwara Bhat, Vice Chancellor – KSLU.

Introductory Remarks on the book were delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Upendra Baxi, Distinguished Prof., NLU Delhi. He spoke on the the tradition of legal research so far and on its present trends.

Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NLU Delhi delivered Comments on Chapters 1, 2 and 3 (Introduction, Thinking Process in Legal Research, and Objectivity in Legal Research). Prof. Anil Rai delivered Comments on Chapters 4, 16 and 18 (Legal Research Theme, Action Research, and Legal Writing Based on Research). Prof. (Dr.) V. G. Hegde delivered Comments on Chapters 5, 7 and 8 (Doctrinal Legal Research, Historical Legal Research, and Philosophical Research in Law). Prof. (Dr.) M. P. Singh delivered Comments on Chapters 6, 9 and 14 (Analytical Legal Research, Comparative Method of Legal Research, and Multi-Method Legal Research). Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai spoke on ‘Reflections on Empirical Research Methods’ from Chapters 10, 11 and 13 (Quantitative and Qualitative Legal Research, and Tools of Data Collection in Empirical Legal Research). Prof. (Dr.) M. Afzal Wani delivered Comments on Chapters 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 (Multi-Method Legal Research, Policy Research in Law, Methodology of Feminist Legal Research, and Legal Writing Based on Research). Prof. (Dr.) Rukmini Sen delivered Comments on Chapters 12, 15 and 17 (Qualitative Legal Research, Policy Research in Law, and Methodology of Feminist Legal Research). The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Maheshwar.
