Institutional Initiatives for NEP 2020

Multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary:

The NEP committee at NLU Delhi is diligently striving towards the successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) to enhance the institution’s academic excellence and overall educational experience. Keeping in mind the multifaceted elements of NEP, following measures are taken: –

  • Innovative curriculum, teaching, and pedagogy reflect multi-disciplinary approach.
  • A range of seminar/elective courses focusing on multidisciplinary and contemporary areas are also offered to students.
  • The University also facilitates exposure to global concerns through international collaborations with foreign faculties.
  • NLUD has established the National Academy of Law Teachers, to promote teaching-learning methodology.
  • Allocating resources and infrastructure to support multidisciplinary research and education initiatives.
  • Fostering partnerships and communication between departments to facilitate interdisciplinary projects and knowledge exchange.
  • All students are offered with Clinical Course in Legal Aid which trains students in public service using law.
  • Supporting innovative approaches to teaching and learning that transcend traditional academic boundaries and foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • The University has illustrious 22 Research Centres to cater to diverse research and training needs of the legal academia cross-cutting with other disciplines.

Academic bank of credits (ABC):

  • NLUD is registered under the ABC as proposed in NEP 2020. For the implementation of the ABC, the Curriculum Development Committee at NLU Delhi has undertaken a significant initiative to revise our curriculum. This revision is aimed at facilitating the seamless implementation of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) for our students.
  • NLU Delhi is proud to announce the initiation of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) registration for our students, reflecting our commitment to progressive and flexible education. 100+ students have registered for ABC so far and rest are under process.

Skill development:

  • NLU Delhi is dedicated to enriching legal education through robust skill development initiatives. These efforts underscore our commitment to producing well-rounded, practice-ready legal professionals. Key highlights of our skill development endeavours include:
    • Providing students with hands-on experience through legal clinics, moot court competitions, and simulated law practices to enhance practical skills.
    • Fostering strong research skills through comprehensive legal research and writing programs, enabling students to analyze and articulate legal issues effectively.
    • Offering training in alternative dispute resolution techniques and negotiation strategies to equip students with conflict resolution skills.
      • In-Clinic I (ADR), students must undertake a mediation exercise, which helps in learning the fundamentals and processes of ADR.
      • In Clinic II (‘Legal Drafting’), students are given fact situations and asked to draft, among other documents, plaints, bail applications, and bail orders.
      • In Clinic III (‘Legal Aid’), requires students to conduct empirical research that aids marginalized communities.
      • In Clinic IV (‘Trial and Appellate Advocacy’) highlights the significance of advocacy skills and professional ethics and their inculcation in students. Students are also exposed to mooting, alternative dispute resolution, and client counselling exercises.
    • Inculcating ethical values and professional conduct standards to ensure students uphold the highest ethical principles in their legal practice.

Appropriate integration of Indian Knowledge system (teaching in Indian Language, culture, using online course):

  • Currently, University provides the law subjects like jurisprudence, HLCD integrating the Indian knowledge system in legal education. The University is further developing the courses on Ancient Legal System.
  • This integration is manifested through a holistic approach that encompasses teaching in Indian languages, cultural awareness, and the utilization of online courses. Key highlights of this initiative include:
    • Recognize the value of teaching in Indian languages, promoting linguistic diversity and making legal education more accessible to a broader spectrum of students.
    • By instilling cultural awareness and inclusivity in our curricula, we ensure that our students appreciate the rich cultural tapestry of India and its impact on the legal landscape.
    • Leveraging the power of online courses, for students to access educational resources and engage with a wide range of perspectives, including those rooted in the Indian Knowledge System.

Focus on Outcome based education (OBE):

  • NLU Delhi places a strong emphasis on Outcome-Based Education (OBE), reflecting our commitment to producing graduates who are well-prepared for the real world.
  • Key highlights of our OBE approach include:
    • A number of new outcome-based diplomas, certificates, LLM (Pro) and other vocational programs are floated regularly for keeping with the dynamic business environment.
    • NLUD also offers multiple seminar courses to students in their penultimate and final years that would allow them to better understand the practical application of law while approaching different legal issues with a more advanced and nuanced approach.
    • Our programs are designed with clearly defined learning outcomes, ensuring that students understand what is expected of them and what they will achieve.
    • Continuous assessment and evaluation, enabling us to track students’ progress and adapt teaching methods to enhance their learning experiences.

Distance education/Online education:

  • NLU Delhi is actively engaged in expanding its efforts toward Online Learning, recognizing the evolving landscape of education and the growing demand for flexible and accessible learning options. Key highlights of our initiatives in this domain include:
    • The University runs several programs which are delivered to learners in Online/ Blended and on-campus modular mode.
    • The NLUD library is supported by diverse online databases which provide ready and quick information to the students. It provides remote access that allows its students and faculty to make use of legal databases and use the library for research purposes from anywhere in the world by simply logging in.
    • The Universities Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), E-content on e-PG-Pathshala, SWAYAM can be easily accessed by anyone, anywhere, and at any time free of cost.
    • We also offer online diplomas namely: –
      • Diploma in Law and Practice of Arbitration
      • Diploma course in Insolvency and Bankruptcy: Law and Practice.
