A Three-Day Capacity Building Programme for Members of District Consumer Commissions of the States of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand was organised during 09–11 January 2026 by National Law University Delhi, under the aegis of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India.
The Programme was inaugurated by Ms. Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, who underscored the importance of continuous capacity building to effectively respond to emerging consumer challenges in an increasingly digital and complex marketplace.
Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai, Vice Chancellor, National Law University Delhi, delivered the Welcome Address and highlighted the role of NLUD as a facilitator and knowledge partner in strengthening the consumer dispute redressal ecosystem.
The Programme aimed at enhancing adjudicatory capacity through structured and practice-oriented sessions covering the Consumer Protection Act, 2019; landmark and recent judgments of the Supreme Court, High Courts and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission; new-age consumer issues such as dark patterns, greenwashing and misleading advertisements; mediation in consumer justice; judicial ethics and quasi-judicial values; judgment writing skills; execution of orders and post-disposal challenges; and prompt and effective adjudication, including case management and the role of the registry.
The sessions were delivered by a distinguished panel of resource persons comprising Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, President, NCDRC; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sudip Ahluwalia, Member NCDRC; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain, Member NCDRC; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Paramjit Singh Dhaliwal, former President, Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission; Dr. Aman Hingorani, Mr. Dhruv Garg, Mr. Bharat Chugh, Dr. Ankit Srivastava, and Prof. Sushila, bringing together judicial, academic and practitioner perspectives.
The interactive sessions enabled meaningful exchange of experiences, practical insights and deliberations on best practices, contributing to a deeper and practice-oriented understanding of consumer adjudication.
