UNESCO Chair
UNESCO welcomes the appointment of Professor Ruhi Paul as Chairholder.
A UNESCO Chair is a team led by a higher education or research institution that partners with UNESCO on a project to advance knowledge and practice in an area of common priority. The partnership is formalized through an agreement between the Director-General of UNESCO and the head of the institution hosting the UNESCO Chair (Rector, President, Vice-Chancellor).
Established within a teaching or research unit/department/faculty of the higher education or research institution, the UNESCO Chair is led by an academic head referred to as the Chairholder. The Chairholder is supported by a team of faculty members, lecturers, researchers and students from the host institution(s) and personnel from other partner organizations (e.g. other institutions, NGOs, public private sector, authorities) in the host country and in other countries who are associated with the activities of the Chair.

We are delighted to inform that an agreement has been signed between Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai, Vice Chancellor, National Law University Delhi and Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General, UNESCO for the establishment of “UNESCO Chair for Legal Dimensions of Clean Sports” at NLU Delhi.
Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Paul, Professor of Law and Registrar, NLU Delhi, has been appointed as the Chairperson for the “UNESCO Chair for Legal Dimensions of Clean Sports” at NLU Delhi.
The Chair aims to enhance teaching and training in Sports Law and Anti-Doping by integrating new topics into university curricula and delivering courses related to furthering knowledge in governance, ethics, and clean sports. It will generate and disseminate research related to clean sports, the cultural and social dimensions of sports, athlete rights as well as gender equality and combatting discrimination, hate speech and stereotypes in sports.
The Chair would also contribute to the documentation of practices and evidence-based on sports and sustainable development; raise awareness on the role of sports in mobilizing youth as a means to protect and promote the diversity of heritage and cultural expressions; and cooperate closely with UNESCO, and other UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks on relevant programmes and activities.

Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Paul was conferred a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for her presentation and recognition of the insightful perspectives and active engagement during the UNESCO Regional Capacity Building Programme entitled “Building Stronger Foundations for Sport Integrity in the Pacific,” which was held on 15 – 17 September 2025 for the Pacific, in Brisbane, Australia, through online mode (17th September 2025).
The event was hosted by Sport Integrity Australia, under the framework of the International Convention against Doping in Sport.
