Workshop and Conference on Introduction to Air Transport, Air Law  & Regulations with McGill University, Canada: 25-29 April, 2012

India has become a major space-faring nation which offers world class facilities and products that could be used globally. Information and knowledge about laws and regulations related to aviation and space activities are essential to capitalize on the economic opportunities being created in this part of the world. Apart from this, India has been a robust driver of the ever growing Asian Aviation market.

 

A two day workshop and a three day International Conference was organised at National Law University, Delhi along with IFFAD and the McGill Institute of Air and Space Law, Canada. It was designed to engage and bring together a distinguished community of academics, commercial companies and their CEOs, as well as senior government officers to interact and discuss current issues of aviation and space applications. One of the objectives of the Conference was to provide a platform for greater economic development, competitiveness and collaboration between various participants. The conference was highly successful in ensuring that as the executives and CEO's interacted with all the participants which included students from various universities who had been selected for paper presentations. The Conference was preceded by Workshop, which was intended to introduce the participants to the basic principles of air transportation, aviation law and regulation of space activities. It was designed to cater to lawyers and law students with no prior knowledge in the discipline, as well as airline and airport managers and government officials.

Global South Asian Conference in Collaboration with Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, India on Title: South Asia Consultation on ‘End All Corporal Punishment of Children’: 18-20 April, 2012

South Asia Consultation on Legislation to End all Corporal punishment of Children was organized and hosted by the National Law University, Delhi between April 18th-20th, 2012 in collaboration with the Global Initiative to End all Corporal Punishment of Children, UK and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, India. The consultation was held on campus and was attended by representatives from Nepal and Bangladesh. From NLU, Delhi, Prof. Ranbir Singh Prof Babu Mathew and Anuroopa Giliyal were part of the consultation. Representatives from child rights groups/ practicing advocates in India, faculty and students from NLU, Delhi also actively participated in the deliberations. Over the two days, representatives present from different countries from the South Asia region presented Papers identifying areas for reform and suggested recommendations. Other countries sent their papers which were shared by the representative Mr. Peter Newell from Global Initiative. At the end of the consultation countries had made a commitment to develop the recommendations further. As a follow up of this process, NLU, Delhi submitted 'Proposals to achieve prohibition of all corporal punishment of children' which formed part of the South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children meeting in Colombo.

National Symposium on Competition Law: Evolution and Transition in collaboration with Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF): 14-15 April, 2012

The National Law University, Delhi in association with the Competition Commission of India and the Society of Indian Law Firms organised a 'National Symposium on Competition Law: Evolution and Transition, 2012. Representatives from around thirty Law Firms including twenty Partners, Senior Counsels, Members from CCI, CUTS and academicians attended the two day event interacting with the students of NLU, Delhi. This was one of the biggest events across law schools in terms of the participation from the law firms. The Symposium was a wholesome exercise in understanding the interrelationship between Competition Law and other streams of law viz. IPR Media Laws and Corporate Law, as also to contribute to the steadily evolving Competition Law jurisprudence in the country. Prof. Ranbir Singh stated that 'to restrict competition laws to a particular sector would be unfair to its very Purpose. Anticompetitive practices are resorted to in almost all economic activities and hence efficient competition law are a need of the day. The main objective behind organising such a large scale symposium is to enable the legal experts of the country to focus their attention on the various emerging implications of competition laws, to assess the adequacy of the present legal regime and to generate solutions to the loopholes extant in the system'.

International Conference on Access to Legal Information & research in the Digital age (ICALIRDA 2012)

National Law University, Delhi organized the first International Conference on Access to Legal Information & Research in Digital Age in association with SAARC LAW & Mohan Law House from 29th February to 2nd March, 2012. The conference recognized the Montreal Declaration and supported free access to law as a fundamental right for democratization of information. The conference recommended the creation of networking among libraries and supported cooperation in sharing digital commons and promoting information exchange.

The Bar Council of India in collaboration with Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy (MILAT), National Law University Delhi and Bar Association of India conducted a residential workshop for 50 (fifty) lawyers of North Zone of India (Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi) with less than 5 years of practice, as part of its programme of Continuing Legal Education from 10th February to 12th February, 2012 at National Law University, Delhi at Dwarka.

To Commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebration of Bar Council of India, National Law University, Delhi, in collaboration with Bar Council of India, Bar Council of India Trust, Bar Association of India and MILAT (Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training), jointly organized “Professional Development Training Programme" for young lawyers from 10-12 February, 2012. Hon'ble Mr. Justice P. Sathashivam, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Chaired the inaugural session. Prof. N. R. Madhava Menon, Chairman, MILAT, Mr. Ashok Kumar Parija, then Chairman, Bar Council of India, Mr. Anil B. Divan, Sr. Advocate, Supreme Court of India, Mr. P. P. Rao, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, Mr. Fali S.
