National Law University Delhi under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized a “Workshop on Plagiarism and Academic Integrity among Research Community” on 30th November 2015.
The workshop emphasised over various issues relating to plagiarism and academic ethics. The term “plagiarism” knots ‘copying other work’ without assigning proper credentials to original author or contributors. The objectives of the conference was to provide outline on general facts on plagiarism, make awareness on consequences on plagiarism and to provide hands on session on plagiarism detection software. More than 50 research scholars participated in the workshop from various law departments. Prof. (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai, Professor of Law and Registrar under his inaugural address pointed out that plagiarism is primarily a moral and ethical issue among the research community. He further advocated the researching is an art and the researcher should maintain academic integrity with proper attributing the original source.
The workshop proceeded with number of lectures on Increasing Trends of Plagiarism in Scholarly Communication: Is It Ignorance or Mensrea by Dr. Priya Rai; Legal Consequences of Plagiarism by Dr. Arul George Scaria; Plagiarism and Ethical Practices: GGSIP University Initiatives with National Perspective by Dr. Anand P. Singh, Deputy Librarian form Gurugobind Singh Indraprastha University and A hands-on training session to understand the use of Anti- Plagiarism software by Ms. Chander Kala Chauhan, Trainer-Turnitin. The seminar concluded with concerns, issues and questions raised by participants on the dire problem of plagiarism that has plagued the academic institutions throughout the world.
