The phenomenon of fake reviews has become an increasingly prevalent issue in the age of online shopping and ubiquitous internet access. Aiming to protect customers from fake online reviews of products, the government has taken initiatives which needs to be highlighted. To deliberate on these initiatives, a Talk on “Regulatory Response to Menace of Fake Reviews” was organised by the Chair on Consumer Law, NLU Delhi on 16th March, 2023 as part of celebration of the World Consumer Rights Day. The talk was delivered by Ms. Nidhi Khare, Additional Secretary (Consumer Affairs) and the Chief Commissioner of Central Consumer Protection Authority.
During the talk, Ms. Khare discussed the various initiatives taken by the Department of Consumer Affairs, especially the launch of a framework for safeguarding and protecting consumer interest from fake and deceptive reviews in e-commerce.
Students and faculty of National Law University shared their experiences related to online purchase and fake reviews with Ms. Khare.
