Special Academic Session on “Criminal Law and Artificial Intelligence” (18th May, 2026)

National Law University Delhi organised a special academic session on “Criminal Law and Artificial Intelligence” on 18 May 2026, delivered by Prof. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf, Faculty of Law, Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg, and a globally recognised expert in criminal law, law and technology, and artificial intelligence.

The session provided valuable insights into the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence to criminal law, criminal procedure, and the justice system, with particular emphasis on gaps in existing legal frameworks. Drawing upon his extensive research and policy experience, Prof. Hilgendorf highlighted emerging doctrinal tests in product liability and negligence law, as developed through significant judicial decisions in the European Union and Germany concerning automated driving systems and harms arising from generative AI.

The University remains committed to fostering academic dialogue and advancing research on emerging global legal issues.
