CyberPeace, and National Law University Delhi, convened a closed room roundtable discussion titled “Towards Safe, Trusted, and Responsible AI in India: Legal and Institutional Alignment with India’s AI Mission” on 30 January 2026. Held as an official pre-summit event of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the roundtable brought together policymakers, senior government officials, legal experts, technologists, academicians, and institutional leaders to deliberate on India’s readiness to govern AI responsibly. The discussion focused on the IndiaAI Mission, existing legal and institutional frameworks, governance gaps, and international developments, emphasising the need to balance innovation with trust, safety, accountability, and constitutional values. Panellists emphasised the importance of coherent legal frameworks, robust institutional mechanisms, cross-sectoral coordination, and consideration of global developments to enable safe and responsible AI. The deliberations will inform a policy-oriented white paper with actionable recommendations for government consideration.
