National Law University Delhi signed a memorandum of understanding with Vishwa Nath and Santosh Bakshi Educational Trust to establish the S. K. Malik Chair on Access to Justice at the university on Tuesday, 22 March, 2022.
The Chair has been established in the memory of Late Shri Sudershan Kumar Malik, a criminal law practitioner who worked extensively to provide free legal aid to the poor and weaker sections of society.
Shri Malik had a long career spanning over 50 years where he practiced at the Tis Hazari District Courts. He was well respected within the legal fraternity for his pro bono work to ensure justice for all.
The S.K. Malik Chair is instituted by the Vishwa Nath and Santosh Bakshi Educational Trust. The Trust was created by Mrs Santosh Bakshi, a life-long educationist and sister of Mr. S.K Malik, to support educational initiatives at all levels in India by promoting research, teaching and advocacy especially which empowers the weakest sections of society.
Mr. Vishwa Nath Bakshi was a senior IPS officer who firmly believed in lifelong education and earned two masters degrees post-retirement. Both Mrs.and Mr. Bakshi highly valued education and its power to improve society. The Trust is committed to promoting this vision through supporting specific education and research initiatives especially those that advance the cause of those less fortunate.
NLU Delhi is honoured to extend and carry forward the legacy of Shri S.K. Malik through a Chair instituted in his name. Moreover, through this Chair, NLU Delhi aims to further the promotion of legal aid and access to justice for all.
