National Law University Delhi Invites Expression Of Interests For Honorary/Distinguished Professors, Professors Of Practice & Visiting Professors

National law University Delhi has earned a unique place in the realm of legal education in India & abroad by virtue of its relentless persuasion of excellence and innovative pedagogy and unique research contribution to the policy and the academic circles.

The University has a policy to invite highly eminent persons in the inter-disciplinary field of legal education and research to foster the vision of the University. Such professionals-eminent professors, superannuated judges, bureaucrats, senior advocates and other professionals who have time and passion to contribute to legal education and research are hereby invited to submit their Expression of interest along with their ideas, plans and a curriculum vitae to apply for the position of Honorary/ Distinguished Professors, Professors of Practice & Visiting Professors.

A suitable honorarium is payable by the University as per the rules and regulation of the University. Annexure appended with this document may be perused for the details. Eligibility Conditions:-

1) HONORARY/ DISTINGUISHED PROFESSORS

Any distinguished scholar, whose association with the University would help furtherance of the academic life and activities of the University may be invited by the Vice-Chancellor to function as Honorary/Distinguished Professor in the University for such period as may be determined.
An Honorary/Distinguished Professor shall be associated with the academic activities of the University, and adequate facilities will be provided for the effective performance of these duties.
The University shall provide travel reimbursement and hospitality on such terms as may be determined by the Vice-Chancellor. Honorarium shall be provided on such terms & conditions as may be determined by the Vice-Chancellor and approved by the Executive Council.

2) PROFESSORS OF PRACTICE

Distinguished experts who have made remarkable contributions in the field of legal profession and those who have proven expertise in their specific profession or role with at least 15 years of service/experience, preferably at a senior level, will be eligible for Professor of Practice.
A formal academic qualification is not considered essential for this position if they have exemplary professional practice in lieu. These experts will also be exempted from the requirement of publications and other eligibility criteria stipulated for the recruitment of faculty members at the Professor level. However, they should possess the skills to carry out the duties and responsibilities specified below:-

  • Involve in the development and designing of courses and curriculum.
  • Introduce new courses and deliver lectures as per institutional policies.
  • To encourage students in innovation and entrepreneurship projects & provide necessary mentorship for these activities.
  • To focus on enhanced industry-academia collaborations.
  • Conduct jointly in collaboration with regular faculty member of the institution, workshops, seminars, deliver special lectures and training programmes.
  • Carryout joint research project or consultancy services in collaboration with the regular faculty member of the University.

3) VISITING PROFESSORS

Distinguished/superannuated persons from India and abroad, having special competence in any field of study of relevance to the University may be invited by the Vice-Chancellor to function as Visiting Professors and their appointment shall be reported to the Executive Council in the next meeting.

According to the arrangement entered into in each individual case, such visiting Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors will deliver a course of lectures or take seminars or participate in such other manner as may be deemed appropriate in the teaching and research work of the University.

Persons invited as Visiting Professor, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors may be paid such travelling expenses and hospitality as may be decided in each case by the Vice- Chancellor. The honorarium to be paid to such faculty may be decided in each case by the Vice-Chancellor and placed before the Executive Council.

Subject to above, the Vice-Chancellor will determine at his discretion such other terms and conditions as may be required in the case of any Visiting Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, including the duration of the appointment.
