      Dr. Saumya

      Assistant Professor (Law)

      Saumya holds a Ph.D. from National Law University, Delhi and has been a Fulbright Doctoral Research Fellow at Rutgers University, USA. She holds a master’s degree from The Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. Prior to joining the academia, Saumya practiced law in the Supreme Court of India, the Delhi High Court and various tribunals, and dealt with constitutional, employment, contractual, consumer and other civil matters.

      Drawing from her academic training and industry experience, Saumya’s interests revolve around labour and constitutional law, legal process, business and human rights, global supply chains, gender and other social dynamics. She is also interested in socio-legal research that examines the intricacies of people’s engagement with the law in the context of their familial, social and economic locations.

      Saumya actively engages with research and awareness work on human rights and women and the law. She has previously been a researcher at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, assigned to work by NLU Delhi as a part of the Ministry of Education’s SPARC Project on Law, Gender and Sustainable Development. She has also served as a resource person for lectures on women and legal rights at the University of Udaipur’s UGC Centre for Women Studies.

      Saumya’s work has appeared in various prestigious journals and edited books, including Lexis Nexis and Routledge publications. She has presented her work at a number of national and international conferences and other platforms across North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. She has also been a part of the editorial team of various national and international journals including the NLUD Journal on Labour, WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers, Indian Law Institute Law Review and Sri Lanka Journal of Economic Research.
