The Centre for Law and Urban Development, in collaboration with the Young International Council, hosted Mr. Sunil Mawkin, Partner in the Infrastructure, Construction and Energy Disputes practice at CMS UK, Solicitor Advocate, and Co-chair and Joint Founder of the Young International Council, Society of Construction Law – India, for a lecture on ‘Legal Framework of Construction Contracts: Risks, Claims and Disputes,’ on 11th March 2026 at NLU Delhi.
Drawing on his extensive experience, Mr. Mawkin offered to the students a practical introduction to international construction law, covering risk allocation models, standard form contracts, and common sources of disputes such as delays, payment entitlements, and defect liability, illustrated through a case study. The lecture concluded with a discussion on dispute resolution mechanisms, India’s growing relevance as a dispute resolution forum, and the role of AI in arbitrations.
We sincerely thank Mr. Mawkin for sharing his expertise so generously, and extend our gratitude to Mr. Ratan K. Singh and Mr. Akshay Gandotra for their support in making this lecture possible.
