Inaugural Lecture of the K.L. Arora Lecture Series (20th November, 2025)

National Law University Delhi, under the aegis of the K.L. Arora Chair in Criminal Law, chaired by Dr. Sidharth Luthra, Senior Advocate, organised the Inaugural Lecture of the K.L. Arora Lecture Series. The inaugural address titled “The Perpetual Pool of Judicial Independence and Resilience: Falcone’s and Borsellino’s Legacy” was delivered by Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, an eminent jurist and former Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Justice Dhulia’s insights inspired young legal professionals to cultivate resilience, execute their professional duties, and maintain an unwavering passion for justice. The lecture strategically utilised the compelling and fearless narratives of the late Italian Judges, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, as foundational case studies. Furthermore, Justice Dhulia incorporated principles derived from the work of Bryan Stevenson, particularly his analysis concerning how socio-economic poverty disproportionately affects the marginalised. Justice Dhulia underscored a critical point for the profession: while opportunities may exist to choose an easier course and avoid the arduous path of serving justice, genuine resilience is demonstrated by choosing the difficult route to actively resist becoming complicit in systemic oppression.
