9th Convocation
(Saturday, 15th October, 2022)
At the 9th Convocation of National Law University Delhi, 85 and 70 students from the undergraduate and the post graduate programmes, respectively, received their degrees in law. Two doctoral degrees were also awarded at the convocation. In total, 157 students graduated from these academic programmes.
At the ceremony, students from the undergraduate and the post graduate programme were also felicitated with Gold Medals, Vice Chancellor’s Medals and cash prizes.
Hon’ble Dr. Justice D. Y. Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court of India & Visitor, NLU Delhi was the Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address. Hon’ble Mr. Arvind Kejriwal Chief Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi was the Guest of Honour at the ceremony. The conferment of the degrees was done by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi & Chancellor of NLU Delhi.
Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice Chancellor, National Law University Delhi, in his Welcome Address said, “Despite our early success as a leading legal educational institution of India, our future is contingent upon our ability to respond to changes in the legal education ecosystem of the country. We seek to expand our horizon as a multidisciplinary education institution and focus on internationalization. Our goal is to attract top foreign talent and encourage greater student & faculty exchange programs and feature on the international ranking list of higher education institutions.”
Hon’ble Dr. Justice D. Y. Chandrachud, Judge in his address to the gathering urged students to “refrain from perpetuating the traditional & formalistic approaches to law” and instead adopt an approach that puts people at its center.
He also advised students to incorporate feminist thinking in law and work towards increasing diversity and inclusivity in the legal profession. “There is huge talent in the country which is beaconing for democratising of the legal profession, for breaking down the feudal structures of the legal profession, for providing access to the unconnected to the legal profession,” he said.
