The 21st Annual Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Oration was organised by NLU Delhi under the auspices of the Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust on 31 October 2023.
For this oration, we were privileged to receive Shri Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Peace Laureate, who spoke on the topic “Compassionate Law Enforcement and Judiciary: Key to Effective Governance”
Talking about Compassion, Shri Satyarthi said, “Compassion is a feeling that makes you feel the suffering of others as your own suffering and compels you to take action in order to alleviate that suffering.”
“When you are compassionate you feel genuine responsibility to each other. (And) when you feel responsible, you become more humane, disciplined and selfless,” he added.
Talking about India’s glorious ancient traditions and culture, he encouraged everyone to do their bit for their country and society, “when people tell me that India is a country with 100 problems, I tell them, yes, we might have several problems, but we are a country with a billion solutions.”
On the occasion, the Welcome Address was given by Prof (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai, VC, NLU Delhi and the Vote of Thanks was given by Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Paul, Registrar, NLU Delhi.
