NLU Delhi Stands 2nd in NIRF 2020!
Three years in a row 2nd rank
National Law University Delhi does it again, three years in a row, 2nd Rank all over India, NIRF 2020 recognition.
With this achievement, NLU Delhi becomes the only University in the GNCT Delhi, to have figured in Top 3 in the NIRF Ranking, under all categories, thrice consecutively in 2020, 2019 and 2018.
This recognition awarded by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India, released its India Rankings 2020, on 11th June, 2020 digitally. NLUD secured 2nd Rank in the Law School category across the country, upholding its last two year’s position of being No. 2 all over India, scoring 74.02 in 2020 and had secured 76.23 in 2019.
MHRD released this fifth edition of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2020 and the Report of Higher Educational Institutions, through Government Video Portal, on 11th June 2020, by Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’.
What is NIRF?
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) approved by the MHRD, was launched 29th September 2015, by the Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country, on different broad stream of discipline that they offer. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.
2017 onwards, every large institution was given a common overall rank as well as a discipline specific rank as applicable.
NIRF Parameters
NIRF measures an institution on the basis of five parameters, namely:
Teaching, Learning and Resources
Student Strength, Faculty-student ratio, Faculty with PhD, and Total Budget and its Utilisation
Research and Professional Practice
Publications, and their Quality; Projects; and Executive Development Programmes
Graduation Outcomes
Combined % for Placement, Higher Studies, and Entrepreneurship, University Examinations, Median Salary, Graduating Students admitted into Top Universities, and Number of Ph.D. Students Graduated
Outreach and Inclusivity
Percentage of Students from other states/countries, Percentage of Women, Economically and Socially Challenged Students and Facilities for Physically Challenged Students.
Perception
Peer Perception: Employers and Research Investors, and Academics; Public Perception and Competitiveness
Score Highlights 2020
Almost 100 institutions that participated in the Law category, were assessed on these five premises.
NLU Delhi was ranked 2nd amongst the 20 Law Universities which were given the ranking.
The highlight is that NLUD has been for the past two years significantly emerging as the top scorer in the two categories of Teaching, Learning and Resources and in Research and Professional Practice amongst all the Law Schools in the country, especially in the top three schools.
NLUD’s scored on the five components of the Ranking as: Teaching, Learning & Resources 90.73, Research and Professional Practice 45.21, Graduation Outcomes 67.77, Outreach and Inclusivity 74.67, and Perception 65.36.
