The workshop was organised by the Centre for Criminology & Victimology (CCV) & Professor Theodore Eisenberg Centre for Empirical Legal Research National Law University Delhi from 12th-14th December 2019 at NLU Delhi.
The Inaugural Session of the Workshop was held on 12th December 2019; wherein Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NLU Delhi, and Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai, Registrar, NLU Delhi elaborated on the intent and importance of the workshop for scholars and students focusing on Qualitative Empirical Legal Research. They also discussed how the workshop would provide a systematic introduction to qualitative empirical aspects of legal research and introduce specific tools and techniques including the application of software like Atlas Ti.
The workshop focused on a range of subjects relating to Qualitative Empirical Legal Research, over the span of 12 sessions conducted by Professors and Professionals. The sessions held on the 12th December 2019 were: Introduction to Qualitative Empirical Legal Research by Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai; Jurisprudential Framework in Legal Research by Dr. Amita Punj; Content Analysis/Case Analysis/Book Review by Dr. Navin Kumar. The sessions held on the 13th December 2019 were: Qualitative Data Collection & Analysis by Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai; Doctrinal Analysis of Legal Material by Mr. Amit Bindal; Report Writing in Doctrinal Legal Research by Bharti Yadav; and Feminist Research Methodology by Dr. Latika Vashist. The sessions on 14th December 2019 were: Applications of Atlas-Ti in Legal Research by Dr. Tejinder Pal Singh (3 sessions) and Feedback and Discussion by Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai.
The learning objective of the workshop was to enable the participants to use doctrinal tools and techniques for legal research. 38 students and scholars participated in the workshop, trained on various aspects of Qualitative Empirical Legal Research.
