K.L. Arora Chair in Criminal Law

Justice D.P. Wadhwa former Judge, Supreme Court of India, the executor the Will of late Ms. Laj Bharti, sister of late Shri Kundan Lal Arora, Senior Advocate, as per her wishes, established a Chair in Criminal Law in the name of late Shri Kundan Lal Arora in National Law University Delhi with a view to promote teaching, research and advocacy in the field of Criminal Law.

Activities conducted under the aegis of the K.L. Arora Chair Professor on Criminal Law
(February, 2022 – December, 2023)

February 2022 and May 2022:

  • 2-part lecture series on the topic ‘Constitution and Criminal Law’. The lecture series was aimed at introducing the students to Article 20 of the Constitution of India, 1950 and the protections afforded thereunder. The lectures were conducted on 26 March 2022 and 23 April 2022. 
  • Sukrit Seth and Mr. Sanjeevi Seshadri who are appointed as visiting faculty under the aegis of the K.L. Arora Chair Professor on Criminal Law, conducted a lecture on Section 84 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (Unsoundness of mind) on 07 May 2022. 
  • A guest lecture was organized under the aegis of the K.L. Arora Chair Professor on Criminal Law on 29 April 2022. The guest lecture was delivered by Mr. Anuj Berry, a partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. The topic of the lecture was ‘Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 & Forensic Audits’.

August 2022 and December 2022:

  • 2-part lecture series on ‘Admissions and Confessions under the Indian Evidence Act, 1872’. The lectures were conducted on 29 September 2022 and 21 October 2022. 
  • Lecture on ‘Statements under the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973’ conducted on 25 November 2022. 
  • A guest lecture was organized under the aegis of the K.L. Arora Chair Professor on Criminal Law on 29 November 2022. The guest lecture was delivered by Mr. Trideep Pais, Senior Advocate. The topic of the lecture was ‘Trial Procedure in the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Sessions Trials)’.

February 2023 and May 2023:

  • 2-part lecture series on the topic ‘Constitution and Criminal Law’. The lecture series was aimed at introducing the students to Article 20 of the Constitution of India and the protections afforded thereunder. The lectures were conducted on 03 April 2023 and 04 April 2023. 
  • Lecture on the law of conspiracy focusing on the case law and different jurisprudential theories involved in the law of conspiracy. The lecture was conducted on 05 May 2023.

August 2023 and December 2023:

  • Lecture on ‘Admissions and Confessions under the Indian Evidence Act, 1872’. The lecture was conducted on 04 November 2023.
  • Lecture on ‘Section 10 of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872’. The lecture was conducted on 07 November 2023. 
  • Lecture on ‘Statements under the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973’. The lecture was conducted on 16 September 2023.
