Inaugural session of the 5-day Executive Development Programme for Mid-Career Training of Police Officers of MP Police Officer (12.06.2023)

The inaugural session of the 5-day Executive Development Programme for Mid-Career Training of Police Officers of Madhya Pradesh was held today at NLU Delhi campus.

 

The Programme is being organized by the Centre for Criminology and Victimology at NLU Delhi and is being attended by 30 mid-career police officers from the state.

 

In the inaugural session, Prof (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai, Vice Chancellor, NLU Delhi, gave the Welcome Address where he explained how the course was conceptualized, the intent behind the course and its core objectives. He also talked about the critical role played by the University space in the conduct of the training course, which he said facilitates free thinking and encourages a liberal-thought process and thus contributes to better learning and grasping.

 

HMJ Ritu Raj Awasthi, Chairperson, Law Commission of India, was invited as Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony, and in his speech he gave insights on the importance of the role of police in the society and traced its genesis in the ancient Indian scriptures.  

 

The Guest of Honour HMJ J.R. Midha, Former Judge Delhi High Court and Professor of Practice, NLU Delhi, delivered the Special Address, in which he highlighted the pivotal role of the police in the Indian criminal justice system and shared valuable anecdotes from his time serving as Judge.

 

Also present in the inauguration was Dr. Vineet Kapoor, IPS, who in his address cited the India Justice Report 2022 to highlight the improved ranking of Madhya Pradesh police department in the national standing and stated the importance of NLU Delhi’s Training Programme, in providing training to MP state police officers over the course of many years. 

 

The session ended with a Vote of Thanks given by Dr. Nidhi Gupta, Associate Professor of Law, NLU Delhi.
