Gaurav Pachnanda is a Senior Advocate, based in New Delhi, whose practice before the Supreme Court of India and other courts and tribunals is focused on commercial and corporate litigation, including domestic and international arbitrations.
Gaurav is also a Barrister at Fountain Court Chambers, London and Singapore. His practice at Fountain Court Chambers includes a wide range of commercial litigation, arbitration and advisory work; with a significant multi-jurisdictional component.
He is a Registered Foreign Lawyer at the Singapore International Commercial Court(SICC), since September 2016.
Gaurav read law at the University of Jammu (LL.B., 1996) and at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford (B.C.L., 1997), where he was elected a Felix Scholar.
He began his career as an Advocate in the erstwhile north Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir, where is was the Additional Advocate General for the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Later, Gaurav resigned his position with the State of Jammu and Kashmir and relocated to New Delhi to join P&A Law Offices, where he worked until 2006.
He was appointed the Senior Additional Advocate General for the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir, at New Delhi for representing the State before the Supreme Court of India, a position he held from 2010 until 2014. He was also engaged in private practice during this period.
He was designated as Senior Advocate in December 2011.
Gaurav is regularly briefed as a Senior Advocate to lead in complex commercial disputes, both by Indian public sector undertakings and by private multi-national corporations, before courts and tribunals in India as well as in domestic and international commercial arbitrations, in India and abroad.
He was appointed as amicus curiae by the Supreme Court of India in a case of continuing mandamus relating to the implementation and monitoring of various measures to be taken by the administration regarding conservation of the ecology of Lakshadweep Islands and nearby coastal areas in accordance with statutory requirements.
He was also appointed as amicus curiae by a five-judge bench of the Delhi High Court to assist the court in deciding a significant question of law regarding its jurisdiction to deal with rectification/cancellation petitions filed under the Trade Marks Act, 1999.
Gaurav is an Honorary Adjunct Professor of Law and Distinguished Professor of Legal Practice at Jindal Global Law School of O.P. Jindal Global University, India, where he teaches Law and Practice of Commercial Litigation and Arbitration in India.
Gaurav regularly writes and speaks on topics relating to commercial law and litigation, and arbitration in India and abroad. He is the co-editor of the book titled “Damages, Expert Evidence and Valuation in Commercial Disputes in India”, published by Thomson Reuters (2023).
