On a request from the Office of the Member Secretary of the Group of Ministers constituted by the Delhi cabinet to suggested amendments to appropriate criminal laws in relation to crimes against women and children, National Law University, Delhi organized a day-long consultation to discuss the relevant issues. Academics and lawyers deliberated on various questions relating to offences against women and children. The consultation was divided into four sessions. The first session was regarding issues relating to federalism and legislative competence of the Delhi Legislative Assembly; the second session focused on the reduction of the age of juvenility; the third session focused on issues relating to sentencing, and the last session dealt with the procedure of investigation, prosecution and trial in cases of sexual offenses. Prof. (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai, Prof. B.B. Pande, Prof. Ved Kumari, Dr. Mrinal Satish, Dr. Aparna Chandra, Dr. Anup Surendranath, Dr. Niraj Kumar, amongst others, were involved as lead discussants. A detailed report of the deliberations has been submitted to the Group of Ministers. The event was coordinated by the Centre for Constitutional Law, Policy and Governance, NLU Delhi.
