77th Independence Day Celebration (August 15, 2023)

National Law University Delhi celebrated the 77th Independence Day with joy and fervour. The flag hoisting ceremony commenced at 10:00 am at the main gate of the University. The Tricolour was hoisted by Prof (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai, Vice Chancellor, NLU Delhi in the presence of faculty, members of the staff and students.

On the occasion, Professor Bajpai, addressing the gathering emphasized the importance of the Indian Constitution by saying that it provides a “vision for all of us to lead our lives”. He pointed out how each one of us should follow the Fundamental Duties, enshrined in our constitution, so that not only are we able to lead full lives, but so that we can contribute to nation building. Urging everyone to inculcate the spirit of nationalism, he added, “we should not think that it’s only doctors, lawyers, scientists or researchers that build the nation, we all contribute in the making of the nation.”

Professor (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur, Registrar NLU Delhi, in her vote of thanks, reminded everyone that even as economic progress is important in the development of a nation, what is equally important is the vision of equality, especially gender equality. “The perspective with which we view women in our society is critical to our progress. I am proud to share that NLU Delhi has fifty percent women professors and that demonstrates NLU Delhi’s progressiveness and forward-looking approach,” she said.

The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by a cultural programme organised by NLU Delhi students, that included dance performances, group singing, poetry recitations and dramatics. The students participated in huge numbers and with great enthusiasm during the programme.
