5th IDIA Conference 2-3/10/2015

CREATING CHAMPS- IDIA 5th ANNIVERSARY EVENT

The 5th anniversary of the IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access) was successfully culminated on the 4th of October, 2015 at the National Law University, Delhi campus. The event marked 5 years of the IDIA journey and was graced with the presence of many luminaries. The IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) project is a pan India movement to train underprivileged students and help transform them to leading lawyers and community advocates.

The theme of this year’s conference was Gandhi and the IDIA of Law: Creating CHAMPS. This was in keeping with IDIA’s overarching goal which is to facilitate the evolution of truly unique lawyers that make a significant difference to the world around them, i.e.  Lawyers who are: Creative, Holistic, Altruistic, Maverick and Moral Problem Solvers (CHAMPS). These traits were discussed in individual sessions on the 2nd of October which saw the keynote address with Justice Zak Yacoob who spoke about Gandhi and the Idea of the Ideal Lawyer. The sessions were conducted by vibrant panels consisting of judges, lawyers, academicians, corporate leaders and social workers.

The second day of the conference was a fundraiser and prize ceremony event held at the Delhi Flying Club, Safdurjung. Awards were received by team leaders and scholars. Rishika Srivastava, Priyanka Hazarika, Shrutunjaya Bhardwaj and Kritika Padode were some of the awardees from National Law University, Delhi. The event saw the coming together of luminaries in the field of law to contribute in making law schools accessible to all strata of society.

The third day had IDIA team leaders from all over the country coming together to strategize how the project is to move forward. The leaders along with all the IDIA scholars held meetings where troubles were shared, and effective solutions arrived at. The event was a huge success and has added to NLUD’s effort in making its facilities and education available to all strands of societies and helping students from underprivileged areas follow and clinch their dreams.
