2nd ANNUAL CONVOCATION
LL.M (PROFESSIONAL) PROGRAMME
Convocation for awarding of the LL.M (Professional) Degrees was held on Saturday, 5th October, 2019, at 4:00 p.m., in the Moot Court Hall of National Law University Delhi.
Prof. Anu Singh Lather, Vice Chancellor, Ambedkar University, Delhi, was the Chief Guest who delivered the convocation address and conferred degrees upon the successful candidates. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Vice Chancellor, NLU Delhi and the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai, Registrar, NLU Delhi.
In total, 33 students passed out as the first batch (2018 Batch) of NLU Delhi’s LL.M (Professional) Programme 2018-2019. The candidates achieving Certificate of Merit are:
1. Dr. Raju Narayana Swamy – Intellectual Property (CGPA- 6.17)
2. Mr. Gagan Aggarwal – Intellectual Property (CGPA- 5.67)
3. Mr. Tripathi Sudhakar Bhai – Banking & Financial Studies (CGPA- 5.33)
The Vice Chancellor in his welcome address congratulated all the candidates, while also highlighting the many accomplishments of the university since it’s over a decade inception. He stated that its not about “how long you live, but how best you live”. He mentioned the conceptualisation of this programme intending to cater to people irrespective of different streams wanting to acquire expertise in law. He further congratulated the registrar and faculty members in implementing this programme successfully.
Prof. Anu Singh Lather congratulated the candidates on having passed out from not just the best law school in Delhi, but also the best emerging one in the country. She mentioned the importance of law in our lives, bringing social justice and equality for all, and being instrumental in social transformation. She also talked of the course curriculum to be comprehensive in its two distinct disciples: that of law (driven by knowledge) and inter-disciplinary subjects like management (driven by output-orientation). She ended with reciting poetry to encourage the passing out first batch, to be brave and take flight to success without fear.
The Registrar in his vote of thanks elaborated on the need and objectives of the initiation of this programme, as one expanding reach of knowledge to not just students who can get admitted but also be functional for working professionals. He stated that the second batch of LL.M (Pro) Programme in 2019 admitted 75 professionals in the programme; the growing numbers indicative of the increasing popularity of the programme within one year of its execution. He also mentioned how not just teaching and research but training and consultancy were foundational pillars of the university, offering its expertise and advice to many governmental and corporate agencies while training IAS, IFS, IRS officers; lawyers; and other professionals.
The LL.M (Professional) Programme is a one-of-its-kind professional programme curated specifically to cater to the needs of professionals seeking to enrich their academic progression and excellence in professional services. NLU Delhi initiated this flagship programme with its first batch in 2018, graduating this year in 2019. This is a Master’s programme, which follows a mixed mode of distance education and contact learning. Any person having completed his/her graduation, in any discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks and has been in service, or has had professional experience for at least three years is eligible to enrol for this novel programme.
The programme spans a period of one academic year, running from August to June. Contact classes are taken by professors and professionals, expert in theoretical knowledge and practical field experience, at National Law University Delhi, for minimum one week each semester.
The LL.M (Pro) Curriculum focuses on Core Papers which are The Foundation/ Compulsory Papers comprising of: (a) Basic Introduction to the Law and Legal System and (b) Constitutional Law: An Introduction. It also consists of Optional/ Specialisation papers. The curriculum offers several papers from which candidates can choose and specialise in, namely: (a) Criminology & Criminal Justice, (b) Banking & Financial Studies, (c) Intellectual Property, (d) Commercial Laws, (e) Environmental Laws and Justice, (f) Police Studies.
