Visit of Team from Mitsui & Co., Tokyo

Mr. Osamu Toriumi, General Manager, Legal Division, Mitsui & Co. led the team from the company and held a talk at the National Law University, Delhi on February 18, 2016 wherein he not only introduced the business giant – Mitsui & Co. which is based out of Japan but also addressed a number of issues pertaining to the Indian legal scenario.

 

Mr. Toriumi provided a detailed understanding of the organisation of the Mitsui legal division and how it is spread across the globe and its further plans of expansion, particularly in Africa and Asia.  He highlighted the functions of the legal division to include business legal affairs, legal crisis responses, compliance matters, corporate secretariat and also legal education-cum-information sharing. He brought to light how the company as big as Mitsui & Co. has cooperation with outside experts and business units. With the focus on India, Mr. Toriumi shared the business areas wherein Mitsui is actively engaged on the Indian soil and how it plans to expand even further. He spoke of employment opportunities in Mitsui and how graduates are recruited across their global network.

 

Mr. Kazuya Kuwada, Chief Legal Officer of Mitsui Asia Pacific Business Unit and the General Manager of Legal Division of Mitsui Asia Pacific P. Ltd. alongwith Mr. Kosuke Iwata, Deputy General Manager of Legal Division of Mitsui Asia Pacific P. Ltd. and Senior Investment Executive of Investment Support Department, Mitsui & Co. Asia Pacific Unit interacted with the students on a number of issues of key importance such compliance, crisis management and land acquisition. They provided an insight into cases on these issues which were dealt with by Mitsui & Co and how the company dealt with them.

 

Mr. Manash Neog Kalita, Director, Chase-India moderated the discussion. The keenness of the team from Mitsui & Co. was met with equal enthusiasm from the students in terms of a stimulating and fruitful student participation. Mr. Kalita closed the interaction with the vote of thanks.
