The Clinic for Assistance in Labour Laws (CALL) was inaugurated on the 16th of April 2019. The details of the day are given below:
1. The CALL was inaugurated by the workers of the University at its office established in the Legal Aid Clinic, NLU Delhi. There were around 100 workers and 30 students during the inauguration ceremony. Advocate Sanjay Ghose was also present for the same.
2. The inauguration ceremony was followed by the workshop, conducted for the workers of the Univerisity. It was conducted by Adv Sanjoy Ghose, who is a famous labour lawyer, practising in the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court. The primary theme of the workshop was labour issues and basic labour rights. There were many issues that were raised by the workers, a few of them are, for example, minimum wages violation, issues related to their PFs, domestic violence, unionisation and their labour rights and non-compliances of the same.
3. The workshop was followed by a cultural event for the workers. The event was aimed at ensuring inclusivity on campus and its cultural activities. Workers and students jointly put up dance and song performances. Many of them also recited their self-written works. This was followed by a Tambola night where the prizes were sponsored by Prof Bajpai and Siddharth Dahiya Sir.
With CALL, the Committee aims at bridging the power differential between the workers and the employers and at empowering the workers. It also aims at increasing awareness about their labour rights and at ensuring their efficient and effective representation before the legal institutions. Prof Ruhi Paul and Prof Sophy KJ are our faculty advisor and the event could not have been possible without their support and the support of VC Sir, and Registrar Sir.
