"Nishant Gokhale completed his B.A. L.L.B. (Hons) from the National University of Juridical 

Sciences, Kolkata (NUJS) in 2011. He was actively involved in legal aid activities during his 

college days was the Convenor of the NUJS Legal Aid Society in the year 2010-11.

After graduating from NUJS, he worked as a Judicial Clerk-cum-Research Assistant to a Judge 

of the Supreme Court of India for a period of one year. Thereafter, he worked for over two and a 

half years in a litigation chamber in Delhi handling cases in diverse fields of law ranging from 

white collar crime, consumer disputes, civil litigation, arbitration, environmental law, public 

health law, race-related crimes. He has drafted and appeared, or briefed Senior Counsel/subject-

matter experts for appearances, in various courts and tribunals including the Supreme Court of 

India, Delhi High Court as well as before several District Courts in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and 

Haryana as well as before several tribunals such as the National Green Tribunal, National 

Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission.

He joined the Death Penalty Litigation Clinic in April 2015 which works towards enabling 

prisoners on death row to have effective pro bono legal representation. His areas of interest 

include criminal law, constitutional law as well as issues concerning the rights of indigenous 

people."
