Dr. Neeraj Tiwari

Assistant Professor



Neeraj Tiwari holds Ph.D. from National Law University Delhi and LL.M. from Indian Law Institute, Delhi. Before joining NLU Delhi, he served as a faculty at Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur and National Judicial Academy, Bhopal. At NLU Delhi, he is teaching Criminal Procedure Law at under-graduate and post-graduate levels.

 

He has worked as ‘Senior Faculty’ in the Committee for Reforms in Criminal Laws (CRCL) constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to suggest reforms in criminal laws. He has been engaged as a ‘Consultant’ by the Ministry of Home Affairs to carry out the work related to three major Criminal Law Bills (BNS 2023, BNSS 2023 and BSS 2023).

 

He has been associated with the UGC ePG Pathshala Project on the subjects ‘Law’ and ‘Criminology’ in the capacity of Paper Coordinator and successfully coordinated two courses on ‘Criminal Justice Administration’ and ‘Penology and Sentencing’. His MOOC on ‘Criminal Justice Administration’ is one of the leading courses on the SWAYAM portal.

 

He has visited University of Würzburg, Germany under the DAAD- A Passage to India programme. During his stay in Germany, he delivered lectures at University of Würzburg and University of Passau.

 

He has lectured on various criminal law related issues at different forums like National Judicial Academy, Delhi Judicial Academy, Rajasthan Judicial Academy, Bihar Judicial Academy, Bureau of Police Research & Development, Police and Para-military Training Programmes, Faculty Development Programmes etc.

 

His doctoral work on ‘Role of Magistracy at Pre-trial Stage under the Indian Criminal Justice System: A Critical Study’ is the maiden empirical study on Pre-trial role of Magistrates in India.

 

He has many published papers in his credit and presented several papers in national and international conferences. His areas of interest are criminal law and criminal justice, access to justice and juvenile justice.
