Senior Police Officers, 5-9.09.2016

 

The Centre for Criminology & Victimology at National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) organized a Five days Vertical Interaction Course on “Police Leadership and Accountability in a Democratic Society” for IPS/ Senior Police Officers from September 5th -9th , 2016 in collaboration with Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). The program was inaugurated by Dr. M.C. Borwankar, IPS (Director general, BPR&D), Prof (Dr.) Ranbir Singh (Vice Chancellor, NLUD) & Prof. (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai (Registrar & Course Director).

 

During the Course of the program 18 specialized lectures by specialized professionals were conducted. The resource persons for the sessions included some very senior authorities from academics and law enforcement agencies.

 

Major themes that were covered:

 

i.                    Police Leadership in a Pluralistic Society

 

ii.                  Changing dimension in police leadership

 

iii.                The models of police accountability

 

iv.                 Ethical dilemmas in police leadership

 

v.                   Communication in police hierarchy and community

 

vi.                 Police sub-culture and organizational accountability

 

vii.               Good governance and transparency perspectives in policing

 

viii.             Human Resource Management in policing

 

The course was directed by Prof (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai, Registrar and Chairman of Centre for criminology & Victimology at National Law University, Delhi.


National Workshop on Doctrinal Legal Research, 08-10.8.2016

  The Centre for Criminology and Victimology headed by Prof (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai at National Law University, Delhi organized a ‘National Workshop on Doctrinal Legal Research’ from 08th -10th August 2016 under the auspices of Professor Theodore Eisenberg Centre for Empirical Legal Research. The workshop consisted of 45 participants and 6 resource persons. Total 12 sessions were done that covered different aspects of doctrinal legal research including Atlas-Ti software. The course was designed to serve a systematic introduction of doctrinal aspects of legal research. It aimed to introduce specific tools and techniques including the application of software like Atlas Ti. The workshop aimed at strengthening the faculty and researchers both. The resource persons were invited from various fields of specializations having vast experience and knowledge in their respective areas to cater the demand of the workshop. The workshop has achieved the object to great extent.

Capacity Development Programme on Corporate Laws, June 13-18, 2016

National Law University, Delhi organized a six days ‘Capacity Development Programme for Corporate Laws’ from 13th-18th June, 2016 under the aegis of National Academy of Law Teachers and the Centre for Corporate Laws and Governance. This Programme for Corporate Laws was an Advanced Programme that provided advanced knowledge in the areas of Taxation, Investment, IPRs and Competition Law. Besides these areas, special sessions on ‘Ease of doing business in India’ were also included in order to keep participants abreast with latest developments in areas related to corporate laws. Faculty members who conducted sessions included not only academicians but lawyers and other corporate professionals also. 35 participants participated in the programme and greatly appreciated their learning and experience from this programme.


Course on Criminal Law: Contradictions & Critique

The Centre for Criminology and Victimology and K. L. Arora Chair on Criminal Law, National Law University, Delhi organized a short course by Professor Alan Norrie, School of Law, University of Warwick on the topic - Criminal Law: Contradictions & Critique - a one credit course under the Global Initiative of Academic Network (GIAN). Professor Alan Norrie is a distinguished authority in the area of philosophy and critical criminal law. He is also the President of International Association for Critical Realism (IACR). Prof. Alan Norrie delivered lectures between 14-18, March 2016, which included two public lectures, the first Public Lecture took place at Indian Law Institute, New Delhi on the topic, 'Between the Power of Love and the Love of Power' on 17th March 2016 and second public lecture on the topic, 'Justice and the Slaughter-Bench’ on 18th March 2016 at National Law University, Delhi.  More than 70 participants including students, research scholars, academicians, lawyers and faculty members  from NLU Delhi and other reputed institutions participated in this course.


Lecture by Ms. Kate Mogulescu, US Expert on Human Trafficking

Ms. Kate Mogulescu, Supervising Attorney, Criminal Defense Practice of the Legal Aid Society (New York City) made a presentation to students of NLU Delhi on issues relating to human trafficking. Her focus in the presentation was the framework with respect to youth victims of trafficking. She discussed both trafficking for labour, as well as sex trafficking. She analysed the legal framework to deal with trafficking, both international and national. She spoke about the US Federal law, and relevant state laws, as well as whether the criminal law framework is appropriate to deal with victims of trafficking.
